Netflix for me

I knew it'd be a good idea to start blogging for Ecogeek, and today was the perfect example. I just discovered a new program called America's Book Shelf, which is exactly like Netflix except for us book lovers.

Here's what you do:
1. As a site launch promotion, ABS is offering free year-long memberships to the first 10,000 members. You go to the Web site and list 15 books you're willing to exchange.
2. Your books are now part of the virtual library. If a little bookworm across the country is dying for your copy of The Little Prince, ABS sends you a postage-paid envelope to send it to him.
3. Here's the only drawback -- you don't get the book back. The person that requested your book will just keep it on his or her bookshelf until it's requested again.

I like writing about good ideas.

Seems kinda flawed, no? Books can weigh tons! Postage has to be controlled somehow. Look at Netflix and their shoddy Throttling practices--and DVDs all weigh the same. And you lose your book for ever?

Re: weight. That's actually a really good point -- and maybe worth a little further research.

Re: Losing your books. But do you actually read your books more than once? Well, yeah, actually I do. And I normally spill wine all over mine, too.

I collect my books like a prize. There's no chance I'm joining bookflix.

These days, I only look at ones with pictures (design books) -- and those are keepers for sure.

i'm still a fan of the free public library. especially since if a book is out they charge only $1 to put a book on hold and they send it to your house. ah boulder is great. :-)

Great books I just joined americasbookshelf and I am really enjoyin it. I have already received some books and the best was sending out a cookbook that has been on my shelf for a year. I like the way they make it so easy, just place your book in the paper, and drop it in the mail, it just doesn't get any easier.
