An interview with Anne Lamott

Like every other writer, I fell in love with Anne Lamott when I read "Bird by Bird" and loved that she had a chapter called "Shitty First Drafts." Lamott is also one of the few Christians I really like reading because she hates George W. Bush so much.
"Plan B: Further Thoughts on Faith" is her latest book, and I didn't get a chance to read it until it was in paperback. Luckily for me, Lamott is so popular she's still touring bookstores with this book, and I got a chance to interview her before her appearance in Denver on April 19th.
Lamott was sleepy when we talked because she had to catch an earlier flight than expected and called me on my cell phone at 7 a.m. her time to ask if we could do the interview earlier. I was walking a large golden retriever at the time, said, "of course" as if I was poised with literarily trembling fingers over a keyboard, and had to start the interview by taking notes on the back of a Safeway receipt.

In my early morning haze I thought this said "An Interview with Lamont the Magician"
You know how sometimes topics or people pop up about six times in a week? Anne Lamott is that person for me this week. I just recommended Bird by Bird to my folks, and I also just read about her on 43folders.com: http://www.43folders.com/2006/04/10/lamott-birthday
What I really liked is how little she makes and how okay she is with it. I mean, it was kind of depressing to realize that it's nearly impossible to be a "full-time author" but it was a nice reality check.
Yeah. Full-time author is another one of the many professions where full-time is literally just an indication of the time spent on it. But yeah, as she says, there's definitely something awesome about that, too.
